Is your fridge starting to look a bit of a mess due to a clutter of unused and out of date food or spillages? Are you starting to realise bad smells every time you open your fridge door? It might be time you gave your fridge a good cleaning out. This article will guide you through the process of cleaning your fridge, repairing any cosmetic damage and maintaining a clean and odour free fridge, along with providing some handy hints and tips along the way. </h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Cleaning:</h3>
<div>
Giving your fridge a good clean not only removes and stains and spillages but will make a distant memory of those bad odours that escape into the kitchen every time you open the fridge door.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
First of all you want to remove all food and drinks from your fridge and throw away anything that is:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Passed it's "used by" date, or...</li>
<li>Is open but unlikely to be used again before the recommended date. <img src="http://www.multiplemayhemmamma.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/cleaning-fridge.jpg" height="218" width="320" /></li>
</ol>
<div>
The next step is to remove any shelves, crisper drawers, door trays etc.. so that they can all be cleaned by hand.</div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
<b>Tip: </b>There are many specialist cleansers available but if you do not have any and would prefer to save a bit of cash you can use a combination of water and vinegar to clean your refrigerator. Simply mix 3 parts water (warm to hot) with 1 part vinegar.<br />
<br />
<img height="212" src="https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/content.cleanipedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/N3-2_FridgeCleaning.jpg" width="320" /></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once you have cleaned all shelves, drawers, trays etc... using a specialist cleaner or your own home made concoction, and dried them off using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, it is time to turn your attention to the main body of the fridge. Clean all of the inside of the fridge including roof, walls, bottom and inner door ensuring when you have done so that any excess water it thoroughly dried up to prevent a build up of mould and odour. Finally give the outside of the fridge a quick wipe down, removing any marks or stains. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Tip: </b>Whilst cleaning the outside of the fridge it may be beneficial to run the vacuum cleaner over the compressor coils to remove any dust, bits of food etc.. that may be clogging it up. This will help increase the life of your appliance. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once the refrigerator is clean, reinstall all shelves, drawers, trays etc.. and reintroduce any food you have not thrown away making sure to clean any dirty jars and containers before they are put back in. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Repair:</h3>
<div>
During the cleaning process it may have come to your attention that parts of you refrigerator are damaged or are no longer functional. For example you may notice that the bulb no longer works or that there is a crack, chip or split in one of the shelves, drawers or door trays. Although this may not affect the functionality of your fridge it may decrease it's aesthetic appeal, and can be fixed cheaply and easily. <br />
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Aftercare:</h3>
<div>
Now that you have a nice, clean and odour free refrigerator, you will undoubtedly want to keep it that way, these tips will help keep it looking clean and smelling fresh for as long as possible. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Firstly, with regards to the food in your fridge, make sure any opened food is wrapped up with cling film or tin foil. This will help it keep for longer and prevent bad odours. Also rotating the food in your fridge ensuring older food is at the front will reduce food wastage and prevent old food "hiding" in the back of the fridge from going off and creating bacteria and unpleasant odours.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<b>Tip: </b>There are many products on the market that can help fight unpleasant odours in your fridge and keep it smelling fresh, although, if you prefer to save a bit of money this can also be achieved by placing an open box of baking soda in your fridge.This will absorb and bad odours. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img height="240" src="https://terriskitchenuk.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/ahrefrigerator.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally, to maintain a clean and odour free refrigerator, ensure that all future spillages are cleaned up as they happen and try to go through it on a weekly basis disposing of any out of date food or drink. </div>

Our household appliances use a lot of energy. The chart below shows the average UK household energy use and how it is split amongst different appliances, showing exactly which of our appliances use the most energy. </div>
<br />
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #999999;">Source: Department of Energy & Climate Change</span></div>
<br />
There are many ways in which you can reduce your energy consumption. By following these simple tips you can save a lot of money on your electricity and gas bills as well as do your bit to help reduce air pollution and global warming.<br />
<br />
<h3>
The Basics</h3>
<h4>
1. Turn It Off!</h4>
</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Many people will leave their computers and laptops on 24/7, this not only uses up a lot of a lot of unnecessary energy, contributing a great deal to electricity bills, but is also not good for the computer/laptop itself. Charging a laptop constantly whilst it is switched on and already full of charge will dramatically reduce the batteries life.</li>
<li>This does not just work with computers and laptops, any appliance/electrical equipment that does not need to be left on constantly (i.e Fridges, Freezers etc...) should be switched off properly when not in use, this will save a lot of energy and ultimately will save you money. </li>
</ul>
<h4>
2. Unplug It!</h4>
<ul>
<li>Many electrical appliances consume electricity even when they are not in use.</li>
<li>To save energy and money, unplug all unused items, such as a televisions, microwaves, digi boxes, computers etc... or plug them into a power strip that can be turned off, this will cut all power to any devices plugged into it. </li>
<li>If you have an extra refrigerator that holds a small amount of items, consolidate those items into your main refrigerator and unplug the unused refrigerator.</li>
</ul>
<h4>
3. Turn Lights Off When Not In Use!</h4>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Pretty self explanatory. Don't unnecessarily have lights on during the day and switch lights off when you leave an empty room. </li>
</ul>
<h4>
<b>4. Use Appliances As Efficiently As Possible!</b></h4>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Ensuring you use your appliances as efficiently as possible will save you a lot of money on your energy bill and will also make your appliances last longer. For more information on how to do this click <a href="http://sparepartsonlineblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/tips-to-help-make-your-appliances-last.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</li>
</ul>
<h4>
5. Monitor Your Usage!</h4>
</div>
<ul>
<li>One of the most useful ways to assess how much energy you use in your home is to purchase an energy monitor. These will tell you how much you spend on electricity for particular items in a room on a daily basis and highlight areas where you can save money. Alternatively, apps are available for computers, smartphones and tablets that can telly you where you are using the most energy and give you tips on ways to reduce your energy consumption with specific appliances. </li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Doing laundry can be stressful at the best of times, but misunderstanding laundry labels can not only add to the stress, but can also aid in ruining your clothes. The last thing you want to do is ruin an expensive wool sweater by boil washing it or burn a hole in your favourite silk dress with the iron. Here we will go through common logos and symbols you may come across on the laundry labels on your clothes, and fabric household items, and explain what they mean.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
Household appliances aren't cheap and unexpected breakdowns resulting in the need to replace them can be a big financial strain. Therefore it is important that we do what we can to help make our appliances last as long as possible. Here we have some simple tips that can prolong the life of your household appliances, keep them running efficiently and help you save a heap of money in the long run. <br />
<br />
<h3>
Refrigerator </h3>
<div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EWXT483H2b4/VQrof3BWlZI/AAAAAAAAAac/u7SRa2oL5fY/s1600/fridge-parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EWXT483H2b4/VQrof3BWlZI/AAAAAAAAAac/u7SRa2oL5fY/s1600/fridge-parts.jpg" height="133" width="200" /></a>When a refrigerators compressor coils are clogged up with dust, bits of food and other kitchen waste, it has to work much harder to release heat, this speeds up the wearing process of your fridge. This problem can easily be solved by simply locating the condenser coils, these can usually be found below the refrigerator (behind the kick plate) or on the back of the refrigerator, and cleaning them using a vacuum cleaner and brush. This process should be repeated once annually and will add years to the life of your fridge. </div>
<div>
You can also prolong the life of your fridge by ensuring you do not overload it, this can restrict the airflow and overwork it. Also ensuring the door seal is fitted and working properly will increase it's life. This can be done by placing a £5 note, or any other note for that matter (or piece of paper if you're really skint) between the seal and the refrigerator and shutting the door. There should be some resistance whilst trying to pull it out, if it slides out with ease it might be time to replace/refit the seal.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Washing Machine</h3>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iT3i4J0Y0p0/VQrU87BUvWI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/ph8TSpxQI-s/s1600/broken-washing-machine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iT3i4J0Y0p0/VQrU87BUvWI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/ph8TSpxQI-s/s1600/broken-washing-machine.jpg" height="175" width="200" /></a>By simply not overfilling your washing machine you can add years onto its life. When you overfill your washing machine you cause unnecessary strain on important components such as the transmission and motor. By not overloading your machine, not only will it last longer but your clothes will come out cleaner. Allowing air to circulate properly can also help increase your washing machines life, you can do this by making sure there is plenty of space between the machine and a wall. This will improve air circulation, and help to avoid a build up of mould around the back fittings of your machine.<br />
<h3>
Dishwasher</h3>
<div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wAZ4HOdI0Pc/VQxHkCdlAbI/AAAAAAAAAaw/Ajy6awz5ouk/s1600/79334097homebrokendishwasher-thumb-240xauto-1542.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wAZ4HOdI0Pc/VQxHkCdlAbI/AAAAAAAAAaw/Ajy6awz5ouk/s1600/79334097homebrokendishwasher-thumb-240xauto-1542.jpg" height="145" width="200" /></a>A great deal of energy used by your dishwasher goes towards heating the water. To save your dishwasher work and make it last longer simply run the tap at the sink until it gets hot before starting the cleaning cycle. Your dishwasher will also last longer if you regularly clean the seal with hot soapy water and remove food debris from the filter.</div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
<br /></h3>
<h3>
Tumble Dryer</h3>
Clean the lint filter before you use your dryer and do not overload it, this will significantly extend its life as it will avoid overworking the appliance and encourage a healthy air flow. Also using the auto-dry setting will help save energy and wear and tear on your clothes. Clearing the vent on a regular basis will also ensure the dryer runs as efficiently as possible and reduce the risk of fire.<br />
<div>
<h3>
Vacuum Cleaner</h3>
As for your vacuum cleaner, changing the bag frequently and keeping the filters clean will help keep your vacuum cleaner working for longer. Also try checking the brush rolls before you use your vacuum cleaner, removing pet hair or long fibres. Finally, don't let the retractable cord reel in too fast to avoid any damage to the plug. </div>

So what do you do...? Well you could call an engineer to come over and take a look, but more times than often the problem can be easily solved by yourself for free.<br />
<br />Here we will take a look at 5 of the most commonly occurring problems in household appliances and how you may be able to fix them without having the pleasure of paying an engineers call out fee.<br />
<br />
<h4>
1. Bottom of freezer building up with ice</h4>
<div>
The main reason for a build-up of ice in the bottom of the freezer is a blockage in the defrost drain. When a freezer goes through its defrost cycle any melted water is removed via the defrost drain. If this becomes blocked the water will pool at the bottom of the appliance and eventually freeze.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The best way to solve this problem is to remove all foodstuffs and any drawers from your freezer, unplug it, and leave it to defrost. Once the appliance has defrosted, locate the defrost drain, usually on the back wall of the freezer (sometimes covered by a plastic screw-on panel) and carefully pour hot water through the drain. This should remove any blockages. Finally plug your freezer back in and leave it to return to its optimum temperature, you should find it has returned to its normal working order. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BUJYCERh1Pk/VM92-tJdwwI/AAAAAAAAAXk/di4PYTEF94g/s1600/frostyfreezer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BUJYCERh1Pk/VM92-tJdwwI/AAAAAAAAAXk/di4PYTEF94g/s1600/frostyfreezer.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
2. Dishes still dirty after coming out of the dishwasher </h4>
<div>
One of the possible reasons this problem may occur is that the filter is blocked. A blockage in the filter can restrict the flow of water to the spray arms. The filter can easily become blocked with food residue from dirty plates and dishes which will reduce the effectiveness of your dishwasher.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This problem is can be easily resolved by locating the filter (usually on the floor of the appliance), removing the mesh screen and giving it a good clean using hot water. Replace the mesh screen and used the appliance as normal.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
3. Contents of fridge not getting cold/cold enough </h4>
<div>
A common cause of this problem is that your fridge is being overworked, usually due to dust and debris covering the refrigerator condenser coils. This causes the appliance to use too much energy and can shorten its lifespan. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To overcome this problem begin by locating the condenser coils, these can usually be found below the refrigerator (behind the kick plate) or on the back of the refrigerator. Ensure the refrigerator is unplugged, to avoid any electric shocks, and proceed to clean the condenser coils using a vacuum cleaner. If the vacuum cleaner does not do a sufficient enough job a special brush can be used. Repeat this process on an annual basis to avoid future problems. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S2UbnXWOqFE/VM-QVVVeffI/AAAAAAAAAYE/ZoW9GkdaI_0/s1600/Dirty-coils.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S2UbnXWOqFE/VM-QVVVeffI/AAAAAAAAAYE/ZoW9GkdaI_0/s1600/Dirty-coils.png" height="186" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<h4>
4. Clothes still wet after coming out of the tumble dryer</h4>
</div>
<div>
This problem is usually caused by a build-up of lint in your tumble dryer. It is advised that you clean the filter in your tumble dryer after every use. Lint and sediment can build up very quickly and, if left, can cause some real damage to your appliance. A blocked tumble dryer filter will reduce the airflow inside the machine. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To clean the filter simply remove it and place it under a running tap, if the water does not drain through it clean using a brush and hot soapy water. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The tumble dryer vent can also become blocked due to a build-up of lint. This can cause the machine to overheat and become a fire hazard, so always check the vent cover is clear. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z72ylLg-hV4/VM-XGRa2bJI/AAAAAAAAAYg/XdG8vbq3nR0/s1600/stock-footage-hand-cleaning-lint-filter-in-laundry-dryer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z72ylLg-hV4/VM-XGRa2bJI/AAAAAAAAAYg/XdG8vbq3nR0/s1600/stock-footage-hand-cleaning-lint-filter-in-laundry-dryer.jpg" height="223" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<h4>
5. Bad smell coming from washing machine</h4>
<div>
The cause of this is usually down to mould growing inside the appliance. As a washing machine must have an airtight seal to avoid any leakage, the inside will remain damp after use and this environment will encourage the growth of mould. This will become most obvious around the door seal gasket. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One way of dealing with this is to put your machine on a hot wash without any clothes in, special washing machine cleaner tablets are also available and will do a more thorough job. This should help remove any mould from the inside of the machine. To ensure the appliance remains mould free, try giving it a quick dry with a towel after every wash and leave the door open between washes to allow any remaining water to evaporate before mould starts to form. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Research has found that consumers are missing out on safety warnings for their household appliances because they are not registering them with the manufacturer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gdm3WzmpKbI/VLeQO1qa7yI/AAAAAAAAAWU/3MdaWU-QSXE/s1600/home-appliances.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gdm3WzmpKbI/VLeQO1qa7yI/AAAAAAAAAWU/3MdaWU-QSXE/s1600/home-appliances.jpg" height="320" width="400" /></a></div>
</h3>
Currently, only around 36% of consumers register their appliances with the manufacturer. This means that thousands of owners are untraceable if their appliance requires safety repairs or needs to be recalled. <br /><br />In an attempt to combat this the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Electrical Appliances (AMDEA) have launched a website <a href="http://www.registermyappliance.org.uk/">www.registermyappliance.org.uk</a> which provides access to registration pages of 47 different domestic appliance brands in an attempt to make the registration process quicker and easier. <div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.registermyappliance.org.uk/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WyhN-xvk7Ks/VLeVpJ6s9aI/AAAAAAAAAWk/6hu0LCWRLnw/s1600/register-now-home.png" height="64" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />Douglas Herbison, chief executive of AMDEA said: "Domestic appliances have never been safer, but we have over 100 million large appliances in use in our homes and we keep them running for 10 or more years. The incidence of safety actions is very low - between six and 10 recalls a year - but, unlike cars, if manufacturers need to make a safety adjustment they have no way of tracing the majority of affected models. The 'register my appliance' page aims to help our industry to act swiftly, to contact owners, if a fault is discovered in a particular batch of products."<br /><br />Jo Swinson, consumer affairs minister said: "It is so important that we make sure that we register new appliances and don't risk missing out on key information that could save lives. This initiative will make it easier for consumers to register appliances both new and old, and will help to ensure that relevant owners get vital information on product recalls and safety notices."</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All in all the scheme is aims to make households safer and highlights the importance of registering your household appliances. So if you haven't already, check out the website and get your appliances registered.</div>

LG are doing just that, with the launch of two exciting new products aimed to improve the experience of the consumer and help save energy.<br />
<br />
<h3>
The Door-In-Door Refrigerator </h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1-jpTjnT0Q/VK0rzLp7n2I/AAAAAAAAAU8/kRWfdtRQCYo/s1600/lg-door-in-door-fridge-2012-02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1-jpTjnT0Q/VK0rzLp7n2I/AAAAAAAAAU8/kRWfdtRQCYo/s1600/lg-door-in-door-fridge-2012-02.jpg" height="320" width="300" /></a></div>
LG have announced their first door-in-door refrigerator which is set to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which is currently being held in Las Vegas.<br />
<br />
The refrigerator has two door-in-door compartments making it easier to access items kept it the door shelves, like food and drink items which are more frequently consumed such as milk, cheese, eggs, juice etc... Also, as the entire fridge is not being opened LG claim that cold air loss will be reduced by up to 47% which will help save on energy costs and keep food fresher for longer.<br />
<br />
The outside of the fridge is fingerprint and smudge resistant and the fridge also features tempered glass over the curved glass. The fridge provides 34 cubic feet of storage space, so plenty of room for all the essentials and a boat load of beer.<br />
<br />
It also features LG's smart diagnosis technology, which is designed to help LG's call centre staff remotely identify any problems that arise with the appliance. Also, relating back to previous posts regarding the IoT, consumers will be able to monitor and record signals from their refrigerator directly from their smartphone.<br />
<br />
<h3>
The LG Twin Wash System </h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XDoZOM8mkbw/VK1KXeONz2I/AAAAAAAAAVU/GS9klokN0A0/s1600/LG-Twin-Wash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XDoZOM8mkbw/VK1KXeONz2I/AAAAAAAAAVU/GS9klokN0A0/s1600/LG-Twin-Wash.jpg" height="320" style="cursor: move;" width="244" /></a>The LG twin wash system is main washing machine mounted on top of a smaller washer which sits in a pedestal beneath.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The machine can wash two loads simultaneously, for example whites can be washed at the same time as colours, or silk at the same time as towels on a hot wash.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When not in use, the smaller washer can be stored away and simply acts as a pedestal for the main washer. The smaller washer can also be combined with any of LG's front loading washers. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
President and CEO of the LG home appliances, Seong-jin Jo said: “One might be tempted to call the LG TWIN Wash System disruptive, as it’s a completely new concept in appliances. However, the addition of a mini washer underneath the main washer translates to greater flexibility, convenience and efficiency,” <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The system should help reduce energy costs and save on water and power as it will reduce the amount of washes needed and the smaller washer is ideal for odd items or smaller loads that usually would have went on a full wash. </div>
<br />Of course, as with the door-in-door refrigerator, the washing machine is Wi-Fi and NFC enabled and is fitted with LG's SmartThinQ technology. This enables users to programme cycles directly from their smartphone, including full control over temperature and length of cycles, and when they would like them to start. <div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NMRGwWK7rWo/VK1aLXW9NXI/AAAAAAAAAVk/JTovZ6i3DP4/s1600/LG-Mini-Washer-Multi-Door-Refrigerator-520x293.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NMRGwWK7rWo/VK1aLXW9NXI/AAAAAAAAAVk/JTovZ6i3DP4/s1600/LG-Mini-Washer-Multi-Door-Refrigerator-520x293.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />So, are LG on the verge of revolutionising the refrigerator and washing machine markets with their new products or are these appliances simply a novelty that may quickly wear off. Let us know your opinion in the comments below. </div>

<br />
Here we will try to provide you with some tips to help make your decorations look great and make the tasks of putting them up that bit easier (hopefully avoiding the annual family argument over whose fault it is the tree looks like it was decorated by Stevie Wonder)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--b3vxwm0JBM/VHxTmoIBR2I/AAAAAAAAAOI/wQ9HKv-AKTM/s1600/xmas%2Blogo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--b3vxwm0JBM/VHxTmoIBR2I/AAAAAAAAAOI/wQ9HKv-AKTM/s1600/xmas%2Blogo.JPG" height="320" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3>
Location</h3>
First and foremost, whilst putting up your tree, you need to consider the location. You may choose to put it in the corner of a room, this is ideal for those who don't have much time (or just can't be bothered) as it limits the area of the tree you need to decorate. Other things to take into consideration whilst choosing the location of your tree include:<br />
<ol>
<li>Keeping the tree out of direct heat, i.e. next to fires or radiators, as it could not only damage the tree but may also be a fire hazard. </li>
<li>Making sure you don't put the tree where it may be in the way of something important, such as the TV or next to doors or dining tables.</li>
<li>Make sure you erect your tree somewhere near a mains socket. The last thing you want is Grandma tripping over the wire/extension lead for the lights on Christmas day and pulling down the whole tree completely ruining Christmas for all involved!</li>
</ol>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
<a href="http://cdn.hotfrog.com/companies/The-Christmas-Light-Pros-Marin-County/images/The-Christmas-Light-Pros-Marin-County_126965_image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.hotfrog.com/companies/The-Christmas-Light-Pros-Marin-County/images/The-Christmas-Light-Pros-Marin-County_126965_image.jpg" height="200" style="-webkit-user-select: none;" width="133" /></a>Lights</h3>
<div>
That leads us nicely on to our next set of tips, the lights! Arguably one of the most important decorations on the tree, not only do they provide a nice warm atmosphere to the room but they also draw attention to the tree and light it up to its full potential. Now, no matter how neatly you stored them away after last Christmas you can guarantee they will have managed to tie themselves in knots throughout the year. So before you embark upon the perilous quest of untangling your lights, plug them in to make sure that all the bulbs work. At least then if they don't you have an excuse not to untangle them. </div>
<div>
The best way to put the light on is to start from the top and wind them down the tree, placing some on the edge of the branches and some further in towards the trunk, this way you can maximise the area of the tree that is lit up.<br />
<br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
Decorations</h3>
</div>
<div>
There are no rules when it comes to decorating the tree, it can be as minimal or as over the top as you like. This gives you the opportunity to be creative and get into the festive spirit. However, we do have a few tips to maximise the experience of decorating the tree and ensure it looks as satisfying as possible. </div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Hang larger decorations about a quarter to half way down the branch, this way they have less chance of dropping off. </li>
<li>Use a mixture of large and small baubles and decorations and space them out evenly around the tree. Try to avoid clustering. </li>
<li>Be creative! Let the kids make their own decorations, personalise your existing decorations, this will make the whole thing a bit more special and exclusive.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
The Final Touches</h3>
</div>
Now that your tree us in the perfect location, all lit up and beautifully decorated, it is time to make the finishing touches. This could include hanging a bit if tinsel or stashing some treats amidst the branches such as candy canes or chocolate, decorating the base of the tree with a skirt or some other form of base decorating apparel and, not forgetting, the pièce de résistance of tree decorating, the star/angel that sits on the top. Of course, if you do not posses a star/angel, you could always get creative and stick half naked action man up there wearing wings and a santa hat (no need to be bound by tradition). </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
Something of an Innovation!</h3>
<div>
My final tip is, if you want save yourself all this hassle next year, you can alway wrap your fully decorated tree from head to toe in cling film and put it in the loft whole. The next year all you have to do is choose your location for you tree, cut the cling film off, et voilà! Fully decorated tree!<br />

These objects will have technology such as microchips embedded in them which will enable them to react to the external environment or internal states. Objects can therefore sense and communicate via the internet.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Benefits of IoT</h3>
The development of IoT is set to completely transform day-to-day life, making tasks such as shopping, traveling and working a whole lot easier. IoT will have the ability to alert you of traffic jams and help you to avoid them, inform you when you are running low on groceries and even order more for you, and give you the ability to control home and kitchen appliances remotely from smart devices.<br />
<br />
<h3>
IoT and 5G</h3>
It is believed that by 2020, 5G mobile networks will offer speeds of up to 10Gbps, with low latency and response times, making them key to the development of the Internet of Things. 5G will be essential to the development of IoT as it will not just be computers and phones that will be connected to a wireless network, but household appliances such as fridges, ovens, thermostats etc... Our automobiles, our bicycles, and even our clothing. Not only will our own personal possessions be connected via IoT but the entire infrastructure of the country will be connected, for example, the roads we drive on and the pipes that carry our water. In five years time it is estimated that there will be 25 times more devices on our wireless spectrums in the UK and current 4G services just do not have the capacity to support such growth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DxQEMGjys8Y/VFtOXnk0ZrI/AAAAAAAAANU/2og-45B0h-U/s1600/internet-of-things.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DxQEMGjys8Y/VFtOXnk0ZrI/AAAAAAAAANU/2og-45B0h-U/s1600/internet-of-things.jpg" height="238" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3>
Potential risks</h3>
Despite the potential benefits IoT has to offer, fears of security have also arisen through its development, as it will gather vast amounts of data that could give a comprehensive insight into deeply personal aspects of our<br />lives. This has the potential to create a worrying threat to our privacy, even in the safety of our own homes.<br /><br />
<h3>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1w2zNzbnxOQ/VFtbZhr2uYI/AAAAAAAAANk/RM5QSFRisHo/s1600/Fast-internet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1w2zNzbnxOQ/VFtbZhr2uYI/AAAAAAAAANk/RM5QSFRisHo/s1600/Fast-internet.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a>Just how fast will 5G be?</h3>
The potential benefits for 5G are massive. As a consumer you will be able to download a 1080p HD movie to your mobile in about one second. Also, thanks to the versatility of 5G, and its ability to scale, any kind of dropped connection should be a thing of the past. Due to the sheer speed of 5G it has the potential to eliminate the need for DVD, Blu-Ray and Video Game disks. Once networks can download a 50GB video game within minutes physical disks will quickly become obsolete.<br />
<br />

<h3>
<br /></h3>
<h3>
<br /></h3>
<h3>
<br /></h3>
<h3>
Will 5G be expensive?</h3>
No, in fact it should be a lot cheaper than a 4G plan today. A 5G data plan could give you an allowance of up to 50GBs per month and yet cost half the price of your current 4G plan. The reason for this is due to the fact that the cost of delivering 1MB of data falls by around half each year. In 2008 the average cost of 1MB was 43p. Today it’s about 2p. By the time 5G is available it is predicted 1MB could cost around 0.001p.<br /><div>

The acquisition of a new warehouse on the Washington site will aid the growth and day-to-day running of<br />
new company 'Spare Parts Online' providing a vast storage area of over 60,000 square foot. The site also contains office and welfare facilities opposite the main warehouse. <br />
<br />
The expansion came after securing £500,000 from FW Capital, managers of the North East Growth Plus Fund, as part of a £2m funding round, which also included a £250,000 grant through the Let’s Grow fund as well as a £1.16m commercial mortgage and loan from HSBC.<br />
<br />
Group Director Kevin Brown (far right of the photo) said: “This investment marks a major milestone for us as we embark on the next phase of the company’s expansion. It has put us in a great position to achieve our aim of becoming Europe’s premier support services provider to the domestic appliance industry.”<br /><br />Joanne Pratt (second from the left on photo), FW Capital’s fund manager in the North East, said: “Pacifica has become a major player in the European domestic appliance industry and now provides customers with a comprehensive range of services. They’ve have built an excellent reputation and taken on additional staff as they’ve expanded. The move to Washington is an important step for Pacifica and I’m pleased FW Capital has been able to join forces with HSBC to come up with a funding package to back its continued expansion. This investment is an excellent example of how we can work alongside other funders to structure investment packages for ambitious North East companies.”<div>

Here is a look at some of those hard to clean kitchen appliances and some tips that will help make your life that little bit easier.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
#1 The Blender</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NYE4gAq2ewQ/VBFvlAUc2_I/AAAAAAAAAL4/hzN5snllAJg/s1600/IMG_60012-e1360013443853.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NYE4gAq2ewQ/VBFvlAUc2_I/AAAAAAAAAL4/hzN5snllAJg/s1600/IMG_60012-e1360013443853.jpg" height="320" width="212" /></a></div>
<div>
This tip comes in two parts. Firstly clean the blender as soon as you are finished using it. Leaving the remains of your latest blended concoction to dry on to the bottom of the blender only makes it a lot more difficult and frustrating to clean. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Secondly as soon as you have finished pouring your creation into a bowl or cup pour a little bit of washing up liquid into the blender and add some warm water. Replace the blender back on its motor and give it another whirl. This should help remove any chunks left behind and give the blades a good clean. Repeat this process as many times as you see necessary. Once the blender is clean rinse with cold water to get rid of and soap suds and you're done. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
<br /></h4>
<h4>
<br /></h4>
<h4>
#2 The Microwave </h4>
<div>
Cleaning dried foods such as beans, soup etc.. off the inside of a microwave can be a difficult and frustrating task. Following these simple tips can make the process a lot easier and stress free. All you will need is a lemon, a microwaveable bowl, 300ml of water and a cloth. </div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Firstly start by cutting a lemon in half, squeeze the juice into the microwaveable bowl and mix in around 300ml of water. </li>
<li>Next put the bowl in the center of the microwave and put on full power for between 5-10 minutes, allowing enough time for the steam to condense on the roof and walls of the microwave. </li>
<li>Once the bowl has been in for the appropriate amount of time carefully remove it (it will be hot!) and, with a cloth. wipe off the once dried on food remains with great ease.</li>
<li>Pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage, stand back and admire your great work. </li>
</ol>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
#3 The Oven</h4>
<div>
A nice tip that will make cleaning the oven a doddle is to place half a cup of ammonia into a cold oven over night. The fumes from the ammonia will loosen up all the grease and build up of burnt on food. The next day simply wipe the oven clean with a wet cloth. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LQRnU1ZFH4o/VBF9fjzE3hI/AAAAAAAAAME/UgQirpUu4Rc/s1600/BUR-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LQRnU1ZFH4o/VBF9fjzE3hI/AAAAAAAAAME/UgQirpUu4Rc/s1600/BUR-3.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
#4 The Electric Grill</h4>
<div>
For anyone who has ever used a George Foreman grill (or any other brand for that matter) you will know the sheer anger and frustration you experience whilst trying to clean the damn thing. Which is why, especially in student homes, they can go uncleaned for months on end (giving all food you cook in it that char-grilled taste). </div>
<div>
<ol><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4rG7mrdIcPs/VBGQfct7DDI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/5dg1G_33L1A/s1600/0099d6a19d5555f2f307334ecefbbe43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4rG7mrdIcPs/VBGQfct7DDI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/5dg1G_33L1A/s1600/0099d6a19d5555f2f307334ecefbbe43.jpg" height="181" width="200" /></a>
<li>Unplug the grill and let it cool slightly.</li>
<li>Place wet paper towels over the grill plates ensuring the grill is still warm enough that it promotes some steam to loosen the cooked on grease and grime. </li>
<li>Close the grill with the paper towels still in place and leave to cool. </li>
<li>Once the grill has cooled lift the lid, remove the paper towels and with a washing cloth that has been dipped in hot soapy water simply wipe the grill clean with ease. </li>
</ol>
<div>
This method will save a lot of time spent scrubbing burnt on fat and food from the grill plates and makes a job we all dread a whole lot easier. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
</h4>
<h4>
<br /></h4>
<h4>
#5 The Dishwasher</h4>
<div>
A dirty dishwasher will not clean dishes as effectively as a clean one, that's why it is important to clean them out every once in a while. Here are is a nice simple tip that should help make the task a little easier. <br />
Firstly place half a cup of vinegar in a glass cup on the top rack of your dishwasher and run it on high for one cycle. Then place a cup baking soda on the bottom of the basin and run the dishwasher on a half cycle with hot water. This should help shift all the dirt and grime that has gathered in your dishwasher and you will be able to see the difference in your dishes after a wash. </div>
<div>

Let us know what you think!With the introduction of new European legislation, with the aim of meeting targets for energy efficiency, we have already seen a ban on vacuum cleaners rated above 1,600 watts. The ban will cover any vacuum cleaner over 900 watts in 2017. According to the European Commission the rules will contribute to saving 19 terawatt-hours every year by 2020. This is the equivalent of the electricity produced by four power plants for 5.5m homes. <br /><br />Next for the chop, in the European Unions attempt at tackling climate change, could be powerful hairdryers. Hairdryers tend to range from around 900 watts up to as much as 2,300 watts. Fears are emerging throughout hairdressers and consumers that more powerful models favoured by salons will no longer be available. Critics describe the plan as "ill thought out" and claim that it would be unlikely that the plans would save energy and could make hairdressers vulnerable to arm, back and wrist injuries as it could increase the amount of time it takes to dry a client’s hair. National hairdressers federation president Paul Curry, owner of Studio 12 in York, said: “We all want to do our bit for the environment but these ludicrous changes, if they do become law, are ill thought out and could be potentially very damaging to our industry.”<div>
<br /><div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ucN5p8MuXLI/VA7aPQNTG0I/AAAAAAAAALo/jVsdKveyC_4/s1600/hair_dryer_concert.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ucN5p8MuXLI/VA7aPQNTG0I/AAAAAAAAALo/jVsdKveyC_4/s1600/hair_dryer_concert.jpg" width="317" /></a>As well as hairdryers there are up to 30 other appliances that appear in the study requested by the European Commission in order to meet a target for energy savings of 30 per cent across the EU by 2030. Other appliances that appear in the study include toasters, kettles, wifi routers, lawn mowers and smartphones. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The study carried out by the European Commission will determine which appliances need to be regulated, in order to best reach targets for 2030, and make recommendations as to the most effective way to regulate the chosen appliances. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Günther Oettinger, the German EU energy commissioner, explained that legislation preventing consumers from buying high-wattage appliances was necessary to fight climate change. He explained “We haven't got round to these devices yet, we want curb power consumption. All EU countries agree that energy efficiency is the most effective method to reduce energy consumption and dependence on imports and to improve the climate. Therefore there needs to be mandatory consumption limits for small electrical appliances.” <div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
Have your say!!!</h4>
Do you believe that limiting the power of every day appliances is a step in the right direction when it comes to tackling climate change and reducing our energy consumption. Or, do you believe the new rules could have harmful effects on the market and certain industries and effect the quality and functionality of future products.<br />

Independent
economic researchers compile a list of the 50 fastest growing companies in the
North East using factors such as companies who have seen the biggest annual growth
rate in their turnover. This means that every company on the list is there on
its own merit and being measured on its tangible success. <o:p></o:p></div>

<br />
In a time when the idea of going green seems to be
everywhere it is hard to ignore the constant pressures to live a more
economically and environmentally friendly lifestyle. “Going green” is the
concept in which we steer away from old and wasteful habits and look towards
new renewable, sustainable and eco-friendly processes, products and energy. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In this article we will take a look at how repairing your
own appliances can not only help save you money but also help you save the
planet and be more eco-friendly. We will also take a look at the latest in
“Green Appliances” and explore new features that will save you money and help
save energy and reduce waste. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When we throw an appliance away the likelihood is that it
will end up in landfill, but what happens when all the landfills are full, what
will we do with our rubbish then? In
order to stop this from happening or at least slow down the process me must
reduce waste or look towards more recyclable products. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
One thing we can do to help reduce waste is stop and think
before we throw out our broken appliances, ask yourself “can this be fixed?”
obviously you don’t want to spend a fortune on getting an engineer in to fix
the appliance when it may not cost much more to buy a brand new appliance. But if
it is possible to fix the appliance yourself, with specified parts bought
online and delivered to your door for a fraction of the price of a new
appliance, then you are not only doing your part to help save the planet by
reducing the waste that goes into landfill but you’re also saving yourself a
load of hard earned cash which you can then
spend on something more productive like that new pair of shoes you've
been after or that new treadmill you’ll use a couple of times before it becomes
a rather expensive clothes rack. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
Now to take a look at the latest in eco-friendly appliances that are available on the market today. Buying the best in eco-friendly appliances may come at a high price but will save you a lot of money in the long term and will help reduce waste and be better for the planet and the environment. For example you may hunt around for the cheapest washing machine you can find and think you've bagged yourself a bargain and saved a lot of money but to produce products for such a low cost, corners must be cut. This can result in machines not being as efficient as they could be therefore creating a lot of waste and using more energy than is necessary. Therefore the cheap washing machine that you bought will have high running costs a due to a waste in water and energy and be costing you a great deal more in the long term.<br />

<br />
One of the leading washing machines when it comes to energy efficiency is the WMB81445L from Beko. It uses half the energy of an A-rated machine at 60 degrees and has an impressive range of programs, including the 14-minute fast wash.It also automatically reduces the water level for half or small loads, saving you money on utility bills. Beko’s specially developed Aquafusion Technology also reduces the amount of wasted detergent and significantly enhances washing performance. The washing machine is also designed to give great results at lower temperatures such as 30 degrees. <br />

One of the markets leading eco-friendly fridge freezers, with an A+++ energy efficiency rating, is LG's GBB530NSCFE. Thanks to LG’s Inverter Linear Compressor, this refrigeration product has been rated as A+++, ensuring efficiency by its design comprising of less components than conventional compressors, therefore making less noise and having less friction points. Even cooling is achieved through LG's Multi Air Flow System, whereby cool air is circulated through multiple vents, ensuring efficient cooling at an even temperature throughout. Due to these features making the appliance as efficient as possible it has a running cost of only £25.23 per year with CO2 emissions of just 73.95kg per year. </div>
